Metro Alert The Front Range (including Castle Pines Village) is experiencing one of the driest years on record with no let-up in sight. As a result the District is experiencing the following: Record high water usage by customers, Water facilities and resources operating near capacity, and Metro Staff working extra hours daily in an effort to meet water usage demands. While this is not a crisis, the District is asking all homeowners to better monitor and manage their irrigation clocks. Hand water brown spots on lawns to avoid wasted runoff. Check your irrigation clocks to prevent excess time cycles. The District does offer a water audit for your home. Please contact us if you need help or more information (303-688-8330). Thank you for curbing your irrigation!

EMERGENCY SERVICES RESIDENT ALERT
CPV is an access controlled community; but this does not mean that we are immune from incidents of vandalism, theft or other types of criminal activity. Emergency Services is encouraging all residents to practice security measures by locking their homes, activating your alarm systems when you are away and ensuring that your garage doors are closed. ES continues to find garage doors open after 10 pm. We have had as many as 15 open a night throughout the Village. For your safety and security of your residence, please ensure that your garage doors are closed. CPV Rules and Regulations state that all garage doors should be kept closed except when in use, maintenance or cleaning of the garage area. There have been recent incidents of theft from garages reported within the Village as a result of garage doors/windows being left unlocked. Do not leave your garage door opener, valuables or keys in your car if it is parked outside. If you see any suspicious activity, vehicles or persons, please call Emergency Services immediately so that an officer can respond.  Please continue to practice these basic security measures: • Lock your homes and garages at night or when you are away. • Arm your alarm systems. • Keep your garage door closed. • Do not leave keys, valuables or garage door openers in your vehicles. • Notify ES if you are going to be on vacation. (Vacation forms are available on the CPV website, CPHA office, or any gate. • Call ES at 303-688-6447 if an unexpected person arrives at your door or if you notice any suspicious vehicles, persons or activity. If it is an emergency, call 911 for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Castle Pines Emergency Services has increased motorized patrol and is coordinating with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to enhance resident safety.

As a reminder your home alarm system needs a working land line in order to be operable. Summer is a great season take time to test your alarm system for proper operation. When doing so please notify Emergency Services at 303-688-6447 prior to initiating the testing.

Traffic reminder During the summer there is an increase in outside activity along the roadways—bicyclists, joggers, residents walking, children are out of school and heading to the pools or playgrounds. We would like to request that you pay particular attention as you travel through the Village and observe/obey the traffic control devices. The “Speed Cart” will be set in troubled areas to assist residents and guests in monitoring their speed.

North Meadows Extension Open House, Response Form: Please Participate!
On Wednesday, April 23rd the Town of Castle Rock held a Public Meeting to review the planned road from the Meadows development to U.S. 85(Santa Fe) and on to I-25. The two alternatives being considered for that roadway include Castlegate Drive, which is on the southern border of the Village, and which cuts between the Village and the apartments, and Atrium Drive which is further south and runs across commercial property. According to a study commissioned by the Board of the Homes Association an up to 4-lane road along the southern border of the Village would have a major negative impact on property values throughout the Village. The Board of Directors continues to work to prevent the Castlegate alternative from being chosen as the preferred alternative. Public comments are an important component of the selection process. Therefore, the Board requests that you fill out the public meeting form, indicating in the comment section that you oppose Castlegate but support the Atrium alternative and mail it to the Town of Castle Rock, Public Works Department, Attn Lisa Streisfeld, 4175 N. Castleton Court, Castle Rock, CO 80109, drop your form off at the Association Office or e-mail it to LStreisfeld@crgov.com. Your input in this process is critical.

PROTECTING WILDLIFE IN THE COMMUNITY
One of reasons many chose Castle Pines as a place to live is the abundance of wildlife that also call this area their home. Please remember that interfering with the wildlife is a violation of not only Association Rules and Regulations but is also a violation of Colorado state law. The Wildlife Committee has received information that some residents are shooting at wildlife in the Village. Discharging a firearm and hunting within the Village is prohibited by our Rules and Regulations and violators are subject to fines and other sanctions. If you witness this activity please contact Emergency Services at 303-688-6447 so an officer can be dispatched, your identity will not be released.  More information: Living in Harmony with Wildlife II with illustration by resident Mary Beth L’Abbe.

PLANNING A REMODELING PROJECT AT YOUR HOME?
If you are planning an addition to your home, new or additional landscaping, or are considering installing a play set, fire pit or other recreational equipment, please don’t forget to contact the CPHA’s Design Review Committee. All exterior modifications to your home including the addition of any structure to the exterior must be approved by the DRC in advance. The DRC is a five member panel whose general purpose is to ensure all development and exterior modifications within Castle Pines Village comply with the requirements of our Development and Design guidelines. The DRC team will walk you through the process, come to your home to review the project, and work with your landscapers on the approved plant list. More information can be found on the CPV website under “Design Review” or please contact Dave Cooper or Jerry Winkelman at the CPHA office 303.814.1345 for more information.

DOGS OFF LEASH
The Village Rules and Regulations concerning pets are to help ensure that your pets are good citizens of the Village. When not on your property your dog must be on leash at all times, and this includes all open space areas. Animal waste that is left behind can pose health hazards to people and other pets so please remember to clean up after your pet. “Mutt Mitt” stations are located around the Village for your convenience. Please feel free to take as many of these handy bags as you need for future walks. Note that these bags are to go with the user and not be left behind at the dispenser station. Emergency Services Officers will periodically monitor the open space areas to ensure that dogs are on-leash.  Click on this link to view an informative and colorful brochure about off-leash dog parks in Douglas County: Douglas County brochure

FEEDING WILDLIFE POLICIES
With the exception of feeding birds (seeds, suet, and hummingbird nectar), feeding or baiting wildlife on Castle Pines Village properties is prohibited. Regardless of how benevolent a person’s intentions, feeding hurts wildlife. Feeding creates an unnatural behavior that disrupts the natural balance. It also attracts prey species and predators to your home where they can create a safety risk to your family and pets. In the end, it is the animals that usually suffer. For expanded discussions on the hazards that feeding wildlife can create, please review the sections on black bears and mountain lions.
