CPES employes a full time Vacation Check officer who will check the exterior of your home while you are away.  Simply fill out a Vacation Check Request Form before you leave and return it to the ES office.  Forms can be faxed to: 303-688-4992 or dropped off in person to the ES office.

Be sure to give your house that lived-in look while you're away. While you're on vacation, use a timer on indoor lights. Look for a timer that can be set to a random pattern so the lights don't turn on and off at exactly the same times every day.

If you'll be gone more than a few days, hire someone to mow the lawn or shovel the walk. No matter how short your vacation, stop all deliveries and either suspend or have a neighbor collect your mail and newspapers.  For more important information on securing your home before leaving for vacation click here to open the document "Vacation Tips from Emergency Services".

Avoid Frozen Pipes in the Winter

A low interior temperature alarm will alert Emergency Services. If you are not home or away on vacation, ES will attempt to contact you. A broken pipe and subsequent flooding damage can be easily prevented. If you are leaving town for an extended period of time please remember to NOT turn off your furnace. Take care to set your furnace at a minimum of 65 degrees. Open up all sink cabinet doors to help the air circulate around the pipes. If you have requested a Home Vacation Check, the ES officer will check only the exterior of home. Call ES to learn more about getting a “water bug” alarm device for detecting water leaks.
